How To Get A Job As An Anethesiologist

Anesthesiologists work with patients who are undergoing surgery, women in childbirth, and those suffering from chronic pain, due to of injury, degeneration, or disease.
If you become an Anesthesiologist, you will work as part of a team, together with surgeons, as well as other physicians and nurses. You must have good communication skills, and be able to think and act quickly, concentrate for long periods of time, and work well under pressure. Anesthesiologists must be calm, patient, responsible, compassionate, detail oriented, and good problem solvers. To be an Anesthesiologist in the United States, you must speak excellent English.
Anesthesiologists work in hospitals, out-patient clinics, medical offices, and anywhere else that surgeries are performed, and chronic pain treated.
If you get a job as an Anesthesiologist, you may be required to work long hours, on-call, in emergencies, and in rotating shifts. You usually work in clean, well-lit, well-equipped facilities. These facilities are busy, at times crowded, and the work is always demanding and may be stressful.
Due to a rapidly increasing and aging population, and the advances in modern surgery and pain relief, job opportunities for skilled Anesthesiologists are excellent.
Anesthesiologists are responsible for their patients welfare, before, during, and after treatment. Before treatment is started, Anesthesiologists meet with the patient to discuss the patient’s medical history and concerns. They will briefly explain what the treatment will be as well as potential side affects. Treatment will then begin. This may involve local or full anesthetics delivered for surgeries, pain blocks, or medications. Before surgeries, Anesthesiologists study the patients medical history, and decide on what drugs, or combination of drugs are most appropriate. They must take into account all health problems such as heart conditions, diabetes, and asthma or other diseases. Drugs are given intravenously or in the form of vapors or gases. Sedatives may also be administered in order to calm and relax the patient. The doctor will test to see that the anesthetic has taken effect. During surgeries, Anesthesiologists monitor vital signs and adjust medications appropriately. After surgery, Anesthesiologists administer medications to reverse the affects of the anesthetic, and monitor the patient until they are out of danger. Anesthesiologist may choose to specialize in one area of anesthesiology or pain relief.
